Committed to furthering the shared goal of ensuring safe food across the country, Mekong Institute (MI), through PROSAFE (Promoting Safe Food for Everyone), is keen to pursue more initiatives with key national agencies to strengthen food safety management systems in Cambodia.

During her visit to Cambodia from May 10-12, 2023, Ms. Maria Theresa S. Medialdia, Director of Agricultural Development and Commercialization (ADC) Department, met with officials from the Consumer Protection Competition and Fraud Repression Directorate-General (CCF) and the Institute of Standards (ISC) to discuss several activities that will be held in the country in the next three months. Mr. Dim Theng, Deputy Director General of CCF and PROSAFE focal point in Cambodia, led the delegates from CCF, while Mr. Tin Ly, Deputy Director General of ISC, represented his Institute.

A series of meetings was held with PROSAFE alumni to discuss upcoming activities, including the visit of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team to identify project achievements in the last five years. There were also talks on localized training programs and knowledge-sharing events which will be organized by the affiliated agencies and organizations of PROSAFE alumni.

With the growing MI alumni network of food safety champions in Cambodia, there are plans for more collaborative undertakings in the country. Through various outreach events, PROSAFE is expected to increase the public sector commitment for an integrated, country-level approach to food safety.
