MI Holds Online Steering Committee Meeting No. 2/2025 to Advance Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and Regional Priorities

The Mekong Institute (MI) held its Online Steering Committee Meeting No. 2/2025 on November 18, 2025, chaired by Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of the MI Steering Committee. 
 
The meeting brought together Steering Committee Members from the six member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) to deliberate on key institutional and strategic matters, including the finalization of the MI Strategic Plan 2026–2030 under the vision of  “an inclusive, integrated, and prosperous Greater Mekong Subregion that is sustainable and innovative, driven by multi-stakeholder involvement”, the proposed Work Plan and Budget 2026, and measures to further strengthen MI’s governance framework.
 
Members also discussed the plans for the Mekong Forum 2026 and preparations for the commemoration of MI’s 30th Anniversary (MI@30), which will celebrate MI’s three decades of regional cooperation and partnership across the GMS.
 
In addition, Steering Committee Members shared country updates and reviewed preparations for the upcoming MI Governing Board Meeting, to be held in Champasak, Lao PDR, on December 8 – 10 2025, hosted by the Lao Government.
 
The meeting reaffirmed MI’s continued commitment to advancing regional cooperation, institutional resilience, and sustainable development across the GMS.
