MI invites stakeholders of the agribusiness and food processing industry to the 6th Lancang-Mekong Business Forum (LMBF) in Beijing, P. R. China!

Mekong Institute (MI), in cooperation with the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), P. R. China, the China-ASEAN Business Center (CABC), Guangxi, P. R. China, is delighted to announce the sixth Lancang-Mekong Business Forum (6th LMBF) on January 10-11, 2024 in Beijing, P. R. China.

The Business Forum is part of a long-term project funded by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund (LMCSF) of P. R. China and has been organized by MI in Lancang-Mekong (LM) countries since 2018 in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand.

With the theme “Promoting Agribusiness and Investment in Processed Food Sector,” the two-day event offers a range of activities to establish business linkages, exchange information on innovation and technology in the processed food sector, and boost investment through collaboration among businesses from P.R.China and other Lancang-Mekong countries. Industry leaders and experts will be sharing experiences through business seminar and panel discussion to the estimated 100 participants from LM countries during the first event date on January 10, 2024 in Beijing. Furthermore, processed food enterprises and investors can share situational updates and network business deal opportunities by participating in the business matching and product exhibition. Besides, a field trip to the agri-food processing companies, high-technology or industrial park located in Beijing, P. R. China will be arranged on the second day on January 11, 2024 for a group of 50 selected delegates.

TRAVEL AND COST

Special offer for 30 company participants from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

MI will select a total of 30 companies from all registrants from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam, or their representatives based in South East Asia countries and are interested to attend the onsite forum activities.

Conditions:

  • A total of 30 companies will be selected on the basis of their business matching interests, available flight and airfare;
  • The selected company must be headquartered in/originated from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam and involved in trade and investment of agribusiness and agro-food processing in Lancang-Mekong (LM) countries;
  • The representative of the company should be the owners or senior managers;
  • A letter of consent signed by the company headquarters/representative office is required to prove the employment relationship.

Cost covered by MI would include:

  • One round-trip economy class international air ticket between cities in LM countries and Beijing, P.R.China (the air ticket needs to be purchased by the selected 30 participants first and will be reimbursed by MI. The celling budget for each air ticket will be applied).
  • Three (3) nights’ accommodation (four-star hotel) on January 9-11, 2024 in Beijing will be provided by MI. The hotel will be booked only when the participants sent the issued air ticket and confirm the participation;
  • Airport transfer in Beijing on January 9 and 12, 2024
  • Lunches on January 10-11, 2024
  • Other travel costs such as Chinese visa, land transportation within home country, and travel and health insurance among all others, etc. are NOT covered by MI.

All participants of the forum will be provided free lunch on the first day of the forum.

Mrs. Guohua Liu

Director, Sustainable Energy & Environment (SEE) Department

Mrs. Liu Guohua is the Director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Department at the Mekong Institute. Prior to this role, she worked in the Department of International Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, where she played a key role in shaping and implementing China’s cooperation strategies with UN development agencies. During this time, Mrs. Liu was actively involved in advancing initiatives related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on climate change and green development. Additionally, she contributed to the evaluation of projects funded by various Chinese initiatives, such as the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, etc.

In addition to her work in the Department of International Economic Affairs, Mrs. Liu has an extensive diplomatic background. She spent 7 years in the Department of African Affairs, followed by a 4-year tenure at the Chinese Embassy in Lao PDR, where she gained deep expertise in both Southeast Asian and African affairs. These diverse experiences have played a crucial role in shaping her approach to sustainable development and international collaboration, particularly in building regional partnerships and tackling global challenges like climate change.

She holds a Master’s degree in Economics, with a specialization in Finance, from the Central University of Finance and Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, specializing in International Economics and Trade, from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
