Mekong Institute (MI) will support small- and medium-sized development by linking SMEs from the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) with India through the “Supporting Internationalization of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Linking Greater Mekong Subregion and India Partnership” project.  

In partnership with IMC Worldwide, UK and with support from the Asian Development Bank, MI will provide capacity building support and technical services to enhance capacities of SMEs in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam.

“SMEs are the backbone of GMS and Indian economies,” Mr. Madhurjya Kumar Dutta, MI’s Trade and Investment Facilitation Director said. “By lending our expertise in SME development, we will be able to help create more livelihood in the GMS, as our selected SMEs will be trained to better access value chains and be exposed to wider marketing networks so they may thrive in the competitive international market.”

Under the project, MI will mentor high-potential SMEs and link them to sources of finance. These activities are designed to develop sustainable trade links, promote SME internationalization, and improve local and global value chains to help GMS countries and India diversify their exports between and among the countries. The project will run from August 2020 to November 2021 and will be implemented in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and two states in India.
