Khon Kaen Provincial Waterworks Authority’s (PWA) Provincial Training Department, led by Mrs. Wasana Watanakul—Director of Regional Training Division 2, along with her team, paid a visit to Mekong Institute on November 12, 2013 to explore the possibility in increasing its training capacity to its workforce. 

For the past 20 years, the training center of Khon Kaen PWA provided numerous training sessions to staff from Laos and Thai Local Administration Organizations as well asothers whose works related to waterworks. 

Although PWA has a lot of experiences in this field, it lacks capacity in providing trainings to participants from Greater Mekong sub-region (GMS). Since the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is approaching, PWA feels greater needs to enhance its training capacity; therefore, it sought to learn from Mekong Institute (MI), which has expertise in training workforce to respond to the demand of flowing of labor within the sub-region. 

During the visit, MI informed the group how the institute has evolved since its establishment, works and manages its trainings. After the presentation, the team was given a brief tour within and around MI. At the end of the visit, Ms. Wasana, team leader, thanked MI for its support and assistance in sharing MI expertise to PWA, Khon Kaen. She also expressed that the shared experience as well as knowledge received from MI will be one of the guidelines and models for PWA to improve its existing performance in organizing trainings for the betterment of the workforce within the GMS.
