On February 13, 2026, the Mekong Institute (MI) received a 10-million Baht annual contribution from the Royal Thai Government to support the Institute’s operations in 2026.
Thailand’s contribution was formally presented by Ms. Arunee Hiam, Deputy Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and MI Steering Committee Member for Thailand, to Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of MI.
This annual contribution reflects the Royal Thai Government’s continued commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and sustainable development across the Greater Mekong Subregion. As a founding member and host country of MI, Thailand has consistently supported the Institute’s mission to promote inclusive growth, human resource development, and regional integration.
Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn expressed his sincere appreciation for the Government of Thailand’s steadfast support, noting that the contribution will enable MI to further advance its programs and partnerships in 2026, particularly in areas aligned with regional connectivity, resilience, and sustainable development.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of the MI Steering Committee; Mr. Ye Xuenong, Steering Committee Member for China; and Dr. Jean Pierre A. Verbiest, Honorary Advisor to the MI Council.
