ROK Ambassador Visits MI

On June 30, 2025, the Mekong Institute (MI) had the honor of welcoming His Excellency Mr. Park Yong Min, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to Thailand, and his delegation to its headquarters in Khon Kaen, Thailand.

The visit began with a warm welcome and staff introductions led by Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, MI Executive Director. This was followed by opening remarks from H.E. Mr. Park Yong Min, who outlined the objectives of the visit and introduced the members of the ROK delegation.

The occasion provided a valuable opportunity to present MI’s mission and operations, particularly its role as the coordinator of the Mekong–ROK Cooperation Fund (MKCF), and to exchange insights on shared regional cooperation challenges.

In line with the visit’s objectives, MI delivered briefings on its ongoing programs and shared recent developments related to the MKCF. The presentation highlighted key achievements of MKCF-supported projects and emphasized continued efforts to enhance connectivity, promote innovation, and foster economic integration across the Mekong region.

The Ambassador expressed keen interest in how MI’s regional role—especially as coordinator of the MKCF—could contribute to deepening Mekong–ROK collaboration in tangible ways.

The meeting concluded with an open discussion on the current status of Mekong–ROK cooperation in light of regional developments. During the exchange, the Ambassador explored MI’s potential role in future Mekong–ROK initiatives. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing shared development goals through sustained collaboration.
