MOVING FORWARD FOR STRENGTHENING THE DEVELOPMENT OF KHE SANH COFFEE ASSOCIATION (KCA) – ACTION PLAN 2016

Trade and Investment Facilitation ,EWEC

A five-day training on “Capacity Building for Business Membership Organization (BMO) for Coffee Sector in Quang Tri, Vietnam” was held from January 25 -29, 2016 by the Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) Department of Mekong Institute (MI) in collaboration of MI’s EWEC project, which is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). A total of fourteen participants representing the Offices of Agricultural Extension, Plant Protection, SNV-EMEE project, KCA members, and coffee companies as well as farmer groups attended the training. 

The training aimed to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of KCA with a focus on management and operations, as well as value-adding services to be provided to its members. The training covered a broad range of important topics. These included BMO’s strategic management and planning, strategic financial management, BMO’s roles in SME cluster development, as well as supporting and promoting members and income generating services for sustainability. Furthermore, the designing of action plans and their monitoring and evaluation were topics of the training. 

To apply the gained knowledge and skills from the in-class training, the participants were guided in preparing the action plan and its implementation as an integral part of the modular training. As an outcome, the participants have designed an Action Plan on Reviewing Functions and Responsibilities of KCA Management and Inspection Boards, and Development of KCA Action Plan 2016, which is scheduled for implementation on February 27-28, 2016.

Mrs. Guohua Liu

Director, Sustainable Energy & Environment (SEE) Department

Mrs. Liu Guohua is the Director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Department at the Mekong Institute. Prior to this role, she worked in the Department of International Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, where she played a key role in shaping and implementing China’s cooperation strategies with UN development agencies. During this time, Mrs. Liu was actively involved in advancing initiatives related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on climate change and green development. Additionally, she contributed to the evaluation of projects funded by various Chinese initiatives, such as the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, etc.

In addition to her work in the Department of International Economic Affairs, Mrs. Liu has an extensive diplomatic background. She spent 7 years in the Department of African Affairs, followed by a 4-year tenure at the Chinese Embassy in Lao PDR, where she gained deep expertise in both Southeast Asian and African affairs. These diverse experiences have played a crucial role in shaping her approach to sustainable development and international collaboration, particularly in building regional partnerships and tackling global challenges like climate change.

She holds a Master’s degree in Economics, with a specialization in Finance, from the Central University of Finance and Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, specializing in International Economics and Trade, from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
