Dr. Watcharas Leelawath, MI Executive Director, paid a courtesy call to Mr. Ke Yousheng, the newly-appointed Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China (China) to UNESCAP and MI Steering Committee member, last August 7, 2020 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mr. Yousheng and Dr. Watcharas discussed regional development priorities in relation to connectivity, production capacity, cross-border economic cooperation, water resources, as well as agriculture and poverty reduction.
In addition, Dr. Watcharas took the opportunity to present the status of the eight MI-implemented projects under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, as well as other programs supported by the Central Government of China and the Yunnan Provincial Government which focus on cross-border trade, power connectivity, clean energy, green agriculture, among others.
China is one of MI’s largest partners and is a founding member of the intergovernmental organization since 2003.
