Agricultural Development and Commercialization

Mekong Institute (MI), with the support from the New Zealand Aid Programme (NZAP), is going to organize the Regional Training Program on “Assuring Food Safety through Pest and Agrichemical Management” on May 15–26, 2017, at Mekong Institute, Khon Kaen, Thailand.

The training aims to enhance the participants’ knowledge and technical capacity to make decisions on the sustainable use of agrichemicals and integrated pest management (IPM) practices, as well as understand other issues related to promoting food safety and sustainable agriculture in the region. The participants are middle to senior level government officials from relevant departments/ministries in CLMV, who are responsible for regulating and monitoring agrichemical use and involved in implementing projects related to food safety at the production level. The training also targets farmer leaders who promote IPM and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to fellow vegetable and fruit growers.

The key feature of this training program is the use of more interactive approaches in training delivery by a New Zealand trainer/expert who has extensive knowledge of New Zealand’s food safety landscape in general and their efforts to promote IPM and GAP among horticultural producers in particular.
