Khon Kaen, Thailand—26 February 2026— Aspiring leaders from Thailand and across the Mekong subregion gathered at the Mekong Institute (MI) to explore transformative education opportunities under the Australia Awards Mekong–Australia Partnership (AA-MAP) Scholarships.
Hosted by the Australian Embassy Bangkok and the Mekong–Australia Partnership Support Unit in collaboration with MI, the information session provided prospective applicants with comprehensive guidance on scholarship eligibility, application procedures, benefits, and priority development areas.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of MI, underscored the importance of investing in human capital to drive sustainable and inclusive growth across the Mekong region. He highlighted MI’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation through education, leadership development, and knowledge exchange.
Representing the Australian Government, Ms. Nikki Wright, First Secretary (Development) at the Australian Embassy Bangkok, reaffirmed Australia’s long-standing partnership with the Mekong region and its commitment to nurturing emerging leaders through postgraduate study, professional development, and enduring institutional linkages.
The session outlined key focus areas of the AA-MAP Scholarships, including water security, climate resilience, economic resilience, and gender equality — critical priorities for the region’s sustainable development. Participants also engaged directly with AA-MAP alumni and scholarship administrators, gaining practical insights into preparing competitive applications and maximizing the scholarship experience.
By convening prospective applicants, alumni, and development partners, MI continues to serve as a regional platform connecting Mekong talent with global learning opportunities. The event reflects the shared commitment of the Australian Government and MI to advancing human capital development and strengthening regional cooperation.
