Vientiane, March 25, 2026 – The Mekong Institute (MI) successfully conducted an Information Sharing Session on the Mekong–Republic of Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF) in Vientiane, Lao PDR, bringing together a total of 73 participants, including 27 onsite and 46 online.
The session was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, development organizations, and academia, reflecting strong national engagement in the MKCF initiative.
The event opened with welcome remarks by Ms. Viengchit Ouanephongchaleune, Deputy Director of the Mekong Countries and Development Partners Cooperation Division, Economic Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lao PDR. In her remarks, she acknowledged the significant contributions of the MKCF to sustainable development in Lao PDR and the broader Mekong region, and emphasized its importance in enhancing regional cooperation.
During the session, Mr. Madhurjya K. Dutta, Director of MKCF, delivered a comprehensive presentation introducing the MKCF program. He highlighted its objectives, priority sectors, and strategic importance in fostering regional cooperation between Mekong countries and the Republic of Korea. Mr. Dutta also provided detailed guidance on the Expression of Interest (EoI) application process, outlining key requirements, evaluation criteria, and essential steps for prospective applicants.
The session served as an important platform to enhance awareness and understanding of the MKCF among potential applicants, while also encouraging collaborative and high-quality project proposals aligned with regional development priorities.
Participants actively engaged in discussions and a Q&A session, reflecting strong interest in the upcoming call for proposals and opportunities for partnership under the MKCF framework.
At the conclusion of the session, Ms. Viengchit Ouanephongchaleune delivered closing remarks, expressing her appreciation to all participants for their active engagement and strong interest in the MKCF. She also conveyed her expectation for continued collaboration and strengthened partnerships under the MKCF in the future.
MI will continue organizing similar sessions across the Mekong region to support applicants and promote effective participation in the MKCF program.
