The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), established on August 8, 1967, has grown into a globally recognized community of 10 nations committed to peace, prosperity, and regional integration. In 2025, ASEAN commemorates its 58th anniversary by reaffirming its long-term commitment through the launch of ASEAN Community Vision 2045—a people-centered roadmap for a Resilient, Innovative, Dynamic, and People-Centred ASEAN.
Adopted at the 46th ASEAN Summit in May 2025, ASEAN 2045 outlines strategies across five pillars: political-security, economic, socio-cultural, connectivity, and institutional strengthening. It responds to megatrends shaping the region’s future, including digitalization, climate change, demographic shifts, and geopolitical complexity. The vision puts people—especially youth—at the heart of ASEAN’s development, empowering them to play an active role in decision-making and community-building.
ASEAN Day 2025 at Khon Kaen University aims to localize this high-level vision, connecting its strategic ambitions with the lived experiences of students and citizens. Co-hosted by Mekong Institute (MI) and Khon Kaen University’s Center for ASEAN Studies (CAS), the event explores how young people can help shape ASEAN’s next two decades.
“ASEAN 2045: Youth Voices for Our Shared Future” underscores the importance of youth as essential partners in community-building. The day will spotlight how the region’s future intersects with their lives—jobs, climate, education, culture, and identity—and invite actionable ideas for shaping a more inclusive and resilient ASEAN.
Morning Panel: ASEAN 2045 in a Changing World
An expert-led dialogue will explore the key features of ASEAN 2045 and what these mean for young people. Discussions will unpack how youth can be meaningfully involved as co-creators of the region’s future and how policies must adapt to secure their participation, well-being, and leadership.

This youth-centered segment translates strategic themes into personal relevance. Students will reflect on their hopes, challenges, and ideas for ASEAN 2045. This will be followed by a synthesis and expert feedback session, enabling a two-way exchange between youth and seasoned ASEAN thinkers.
