MI Strengthens Regional Readiness for MKCF Funding through Outreach in Yangon

Yangon, Myanmar – April 2, 2026 — The Mekong Institute (MI) successfully convened an Information Sharing Session on the Mekong–Republic of Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF) in Yangon, equipping stakeholders with the knowledge and practical tools needed to develop competitive proposals for the upcoming 10th Call for Proposals.

The session brought together 159 participants—including 40 attending in person and 119 joining online—from government agencies, development organizations, and academic institutions. The strong turnout reflects growing demand for MKCF support and increasing interest in developing collaborative, multi-country projects that address shared development challenges across the Mekong subregion.

Opening the session, Ms. Aye Aye Myo, Director of the Sub-Regional Economic Division at Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the importance of regional and international cooperation in addressing complex development challenges. She underscored the critical role of the Republic of Korea, the MKCF, and Mekong Institute in supporting countries to design impactful initiatives, and emphasized the value of the session in guiding participants to prepare high-quality Expressions of Interest (EoIs).
A central component of the session was a comprehensive briefing by Mr. Madhurjya K. Dutta, Director of MKCF, who provided guidance on the Fund’s objectives, priority sectors, and application process. Participants were guided through key requirements, evaluation criteria, and practical considerations for developing strong proposals, enabling them to better align project concepts with regional priorities and funding expectations.

Discussions and the Q&A segment saw active engagement from participants, with strong interest in proposal design, partnership arrangements, and implementation approaches.

By convening this session, MI continues to play a critical role in strengthening proposal readiness. The session forms part of MI’s broader regional outreach to ensure that stakeholders are well-prepared to access MKCF funding and contribute to high-impact, scalable development initiatives.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Aye Aye Myo, who expressed appreciation for the active participation and encouraged timely submission of applications. Mr. Dutta also acknowledged the continued support of the Republic of Korea in advancing regional cooperation and sustainable development through the MKCF.
