MI Executive Director Welcomes H.E. Mr. Ernst Wolfgang Reichel, Ambassador of Germany to Thailand

Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of the Mekong Institute (MI), welcomed H.E. Mr. Ernst Wolfgang Reichel, Ambassador of Germany to Thailand, during his visit to MI Headquarters on February 24, 2026.
 
During the meeting, the Executive Director presented MI’s key achievements over the past five years, marking the completion of the Strategic Plan 2021–2025 and the transition to the Strategic Plan 2026–2030. He highlighted MI’s strengthened role in regional cooperation, policy dialogue, and human resource development across the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), supported by expanded partnerships, stronger knowledge systems, and diversified resource mobilization to advance connectivity, resilience, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
 
Ambassador Reichel expressed appreciation for MI’s continued contribution to regional cooperation and showed keen interest in how the new Strategic Plan 2026–2030 will be operationalized. Discussions focused on translating strategic priorities into concrete programs, strengthening results-based management, and enhancing collaboration with development partners.
 
The meeting also featured an exchange of views on emerging trends and key issues in the GMS, as well as updates on the evolving regional cooperation framework in the Mekong Region. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of dialogue, partnership, and coordinated approaches to address shared development challenges and opportunities.
