The ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN) was established in 2014 by the ASEAN Technical Working Group on Agriculture (ATWGARD) as a vital platform for regional collaboration on climate-smart agriculture (CSA). This network was created in response to the urgent need for ASEAN Member States (AMS) to enhance their adaptive capacities in the agriculture sector, particularly in light of the increasing impacts of climate change.
The 10th Anniversary of ASEAN-CRN, themed “Celebrating a decade of enhanced regional cooperation for a sustainable agricultural future,” marks a milestone in advancing sustainable agrifood transformation in response to climate change. Thailand’s Department of Agriculture (DOA) currently serves as the Chair of ASEAN-CRN and is hosting this milestone event, which is co-organised by the Mekong Institute (MI) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Winrock International and Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
As we reflect on a decade of progress, it is crucial to discuss future challenges and reaffirm our commitment to building climate resilience in agriculture. The upcoming anniversary event will serve as a platform for stakeholders, partners, and supporters to:
- Celebrate achievements: Highlight the milestones and successes achieved by ASEAN-CRN over the past decade
- Discuss future directions: Engage participants in discussions about future challenges and opportunities, and explore strategic directions for advancing climate resilience in agriculture in the region
- Share knowledge: Provide a platform for sharing best practices, research findings, and innovative solutions that have contributed to enhancing climate resilience in ASEAN countries
- Strengthen partnerships: Foster networking and collaboration among stakeholders, including governments, academia, international organisations, to enhance collective efforts in climate resilience
The event is anticipated to attract approximately 120 stakeholders, including ASEAN-CRN focal points from each ASEAN Member State, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and relevant working groups, as well as development partners and supporters of ASEAN-CRN
The event will be held onsite and will also be livestreamed on ASEAN-CRN’s Facebook page.
- Partners’ statements: Selected development partners will be invited to provide brief 3-minute statements on partnership in support of regional cooperation and advancing climate resilience in agriculture in the region
- Gallery walk exhibition: The exhibition will showcase cutting-edge research, publications, innovative projects, initiatives, and practical tools and solutions from various organisations
- Study Tour: A study tour to the Royal Project in Mae-Hia Sub-District will be organised to visit the Department of Agriculture Thailand’s pilot site, which addresses agricultural burning and its associated air pollution in Northern Thailand. This visit aims to facilitate dialogue and exchange insights on tackling the issue of crop residue burning
