REGIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM ON LABOR MIGRATION MANAGEMENT IN THE GREATER MEKONG SUBREGION

Innovation and Technological Connectivity

Recognizing the critical issue of migration in the push for regional cooperation, Mekong Institute (MI) is holding a Regional Training Program on “Labor Migration Management in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS)” on October 16-27, 2017 at its residential training center in Khon Kaen, Thailand. The event is being organized in collaboration with the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).

About 20 senior and mid-level cross-border officials from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam are joining the training. Seeking to promote knowledge and information exchange, the training will engage participants in a discussion on the current status and trends of migration in the GMS; migration issues especially of women migrants; challenges faced by migrant workers; and the various mechanisms, approaches and policy actions in response to the plight of migrant workers. Integral also to the training are the structured learning visits to government agencies dealing with migrant workers and private companies employing migrant workers in Thailand.
