Mekong Institute (MI) and the Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute (HAII), are organizing the Training Course on “Water Resources Information System for Agricultural Development”, at the Mekong Institute Residential Training Center, Khon Kaen, Thailand, from October 25-29, 2016. The training course is sponsored by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).
Fourteen participants from two Ministries of Lao PDR – Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and Ministry of Public Work and Transportation – are attending the program. The training course aims to enhance Lao government officials’ capacity in water resource management for agricultural development using best practices and experiences in Thailand.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Watcharas Leelawath, Executive Director of MI, briefly introduced MI and explained the work of the institute, focusing on three key thematic areas. He expressed his hopes that participants would apply the knowledge and skills gained from this training course upon their return to Lao PDR to actually create an impact.
Dr. Royboon Rassameethes, Deputy Director of HAII and Deputy Secretary-General of Utokapat Foundation, under the Royal Patronage of H.M. the King, welcomed the participants and highlighted the successful work of HAII in water resource management in Thailand. She hopes this course will serve as a platform to establish a network of cooperation between Thailand and Lao PDR, committed to information sharing and to prepare joint proposals to improve water and food security, leading to the security of the economy in the region.
