LAO-CHINA BUSINESS MATCHING ON TRADE EVENTS PROMOTION ALONG NORTH-SOUTH ECONOMIC CORRIDOR (NSEC : R3A) COMPLETED ON FEB 14, 2015

Trade and Investment Facilitation

In collaboration with the Mekong Institute (MI), the Lao-China participants team jointly conducted a “Lao-China Business Matching on Trade Events Promotion along North-South Economic Corridor (NSEC: R3A) on February 14, 2015 at the Beautiful Boten Special Economic Zone, Luang Namtha Province, Lao PDR. The event was part of the one-year project on “Enhancing Provincial and Local Chamber of Commerce Capacities in Trade and Investment Facilitation along the GMS North-South Economic Corridors (R3A & R3B)” funded by the ASEAN China Cooperation Fund (ACCF). 

During the modular training on trade event promotion from January 19 to 23 at the MI in Khon Kaen, the Lao and China participants prepared a joint action plan to organize a business matching event. The participants use the knowledge and skills they learned during the training course for their action plan implementation. The event aimed to provide opportunities for SME groups and the prospective investors from Laos and China to expand their businesses promote business cooperation and boost SME linkages along the corridor and beyond. Mr. Sanga Sattunun, Associate program Manager of MI introduced the e-business platform-www.nsecbiz.com to the participants. 

Over 70 business delegates from Lao PDR, China and Thailand attended this event representing trading enterprises, import-export traders, manufacturers, logistics operators, tourism companies and agricultural products/services manufacturers/providers. 

The business matching event achieved good results by sharing business information to forge business collaboration in certain products such as millet seed, mushroom, chilli, long bean, rubber, cassava, rice for noodle processing. The investors agreed to further follow up with their potential business partners to put their commitments into action.
