Mekong Institute has launched the regional workshop cum structured learning visit on “Transboundary Agribusiness Development and Management in the GMS” in collaboration with the GMS Business Forum and National Chambers of Commerce of the six GMS countries. It aims to enhance awareness of members of public agencies and private enterprise associations on the GMS economic cooperation and integration especially in transnational agriculture trade policies, trend of agricultural cross-border trade, and transnational business development services in the GMS. This regional program is sponsored by Yunnan Provincial Government of China. Mr. Diao Minsheng, Permanent Representative of the Peoples Republic of China to UNESCAP, Mr. Savan Vongsinnasone, Consul, Consulate General of the Lao PDR, and Mr. Tran Nguyen Trong Lien, Consul, Consulate General of Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, attended the opening ceremony at Mekong Institute.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Diao Minsheng stated that Greater Mekong Sub-region is one of the most dynamic regions in the world with immense development potentials, and the countries in the region are in the process and at the crucial stage of development. Agriculture has been, is and will remain to be the backbone of economy of the Mekong region.
The workshop is being conducted at the MI Residential Training Center in Khon Kaen with study visits to different multi-national agri-enterprises in the Northeast region of Thailand from 22 March to 2 April 2010.
