Sustainable Energy and Environment
After taking part in the webinar and training program, which is sponsored by Yunnan Provincial Government of P.R. China and organized under “Promoting Resilient and Sustainable Tourism for Post-COVID 19 Recovery in the Lancang-Mekong Countries” project, participants from the government and private sectors rolled out a new video to promote sustainable tourism and boost economic recovery in the Lancang-Mekong region. This video is part of a project which saw participants assigned to creatively implement an action plan based on the varying situations in Lancang-Mekong countries.

Consolidated from outputs of 6 country action plans, the five-minute video provides a short introduction to four key sustainable tourism concepts, namely eco-tourism, community-based tourism, responsible tourism, and smart tourism. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism sector in the region is facing unprecedented challenges in ways we cannot imagine. With tourism a major contributor to GDP, economic losses across the six countries are staggering.

In an effort to boost recovery, sustainable tourism emerges as an imperative to sustain livelihoods, bring back tourism in a more sustainable way, and increase resilience in tourism-related industries.
