Agricultural Development and Commercialization

A total of 20 food safety trainers from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV) are attending Mekong Institute’s Regional Training of Trainers on Food Safety Promotion this week from March 11–15 at the MI Residential Training Center in Khon Kaen. An integral part of the Promoting Food Safety for Everyone (PROSAFE) Project, the one-week training seeks to enhance the skills of CLMV food safety trainers to come up with innovative and effective safe food training programs to be conducted in their respective countries.

MI’s Director of the Innovation and Technological Connectivity Department, Mr. Sudam Pawar, on behalf of Dr. Watcharas Leelawath, Executive Director, warmly welcomed the participants and pointed to their integral role as food safety trainers in advancing food safety consciousness in their respective countries.

“You are in an important position to train others, as well as advise main stakeholders including the government and the community and provide them evidence-based information. This training will provide you with that information and many more that you can use in championing food safety in your countries,” he explains. As part of MI’s pool of experts and trainers, the participants will be tapped to share their expertise in future localized trainings in their respective countries.

This ToT on Food Safety Promotion is on its second run since the PROSAFE Project was launched in 2018. Supported by the New Zealand Aid Programme, one of the Project’s major goals is to build a network of skilled and capable safe food trainers contributing to increased professionalism and sustainability of food safety knowledge and skills in the region.
