MI OPENS APPLICATIONS TO REGIONAL TRAINING ON RURAL E-COMMERCE DEVELOPMENT

Mekong Institute, with the support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China through the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, is organizing a regional modular training program on “Rural E-commerce Development in Lancang-Mekong.” The training program consists of three phases scheduled between October 2018 and March 2019.  

The training is part of a two-year project on “Action Research on Rural E-commerce Development in Lancang-Mekong,” with MI as its implementing agency in coordination with Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce. It aims to promote e-commerce development as a tool that will enable enterprises to participate in broader markets and trade opportunities.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The training is designed for mid- to senior-level professionals from private and public sectors, including:

Ministry/ Department of Industry/ Commerce/ Information, Communication and Technology;
Development and Marketing Agencies for One Tambon One Product (OTOP)/ One District One Product (ODOP)/ One Village One Product (OVOP);
Rural E-commerce and E-commerce Service Providers;
Agriculture Cooperatives Alliances/ Supply and Marketing Cooperatives;
SME Clusters, Social Enterprises and Start-ups involved in E-commerce or Rural E-commerce; and
Research institutes.
Full scholarships will be provided to a total of 24 participants – four each from Cambodia, P.R. China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand.

In addition to this, the training program also welcomes self-sponsored individuals. A participation fee of USD 700 net covers the training package, accommodation, airport/hotel transfers, and lunch during the training period.

Nominated candidates must attach their letter of nomination along with the above mentioned requirements.

Mrs. Guohua Liu

Director, Sustainable Energy & Environment (SEE) Department

Mrs. Liu Guohua is the Director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Department at the Mekong Institute. Prior to this role, she worked in the Department of International Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, where she played a key role in shaping and implementing China’s cooperation strategies with UN development agencies. During this time, Mrs. Liu was actively involved in advancing initiatives related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on climate change and green development. Additionally, she contributed to the evaluation of projects funded by various Chinese initiatives, such as the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, etc.

In addition to her work in the Department of International Economic Affairs, Mrs. Liu has an extensive diplomatic background. She spent 7 years in the Department of African Affairs, followed by a 4-year tenure at the Chinese Embassy in Lao PDR, where she gained deep expertise in both Southeast Asian and African affairs. These diverse experiences have played a crucial role in shaping her approach to sustainable development and international collaboration, particularly in building regional partnerships and tackling global challenges like climate change.

She holds a Master’s degree in Economics, with a specialization in Finance, from the Central University of Finance and Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, specializing in International Economics and Trade, from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
