MI OPENS APPLICATIONS FOR WORKSHOP ON CANADIAN MARKET ACCESS REQUIREMENTS

Trade and Investment Facilitation

Mekong Institute (MI), in collaboration with the Trade Facilitation Office Canada (TFO Canada) through the support of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), is organizing a half day workshop on Canadian Market Access Requirements and Trade Opportunities in the following locations:

  • Phnom Penh, Cambodia on August 27, 2018 at Sunway Hotel,
  • Vientiane, Laos on August 30, 2018 at Don Chan Palace Hotel & Convention,
  • Mandalay, Myanmar on September 3, 2018 at Mandalay Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MRCCI), and
  • Yangon, Myanmar on September 5, 2018 at Summit Parkview Hotel.

The workshop is part of the one-year project (2018-2019) on “Making trade work for development: Export capacity support for small exporters from Asia-Pacific (ECSAF) in specialty agro-food value chains”.

The event aims to provide a general presentation of the Canadian market with practical information on how to export; description of TFO Canada services available to SME exporters from developing countries; an overview of the agro-food sector (including size of the market, consumer trends, competitive environment, distribution channels, promotional avenues, import regulations, market access environment); and practical market entry recommendations.

WHO CAN APPLY

The workshop is intended for owners of small and medium sized enterprises in specialty food products from Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar. There is no participation fee, all expenses, related to the workshop including meals and workshop materials will be covered by the organizers. However, please note that there will be no travel allowance or per diem to be given for attending the workshop.

Mrs. Guohua Liu

Director, Sustainable Energy & Environment (SEE) Department

Mrs. Liu Guohua is the Director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Department at the Mekong Institute. Prior to this role, she worked in the Department of International Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, where she played a key role in shaping and implementing China’s cooperation strategies with UN development agencies. During this time, Mrs. Liu was actively involved in advancing initiatives related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on climate change and green development. Additionally, she contributed to the evaluation of projects funded by various Chinese initiatives, such as the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, etc.

In addition to her work in the Department of International Economic Affairs, Mrs. Liu has an extensive diplomatic background. She spent 7 years in the Department of African Affairs, followed by a 4-year tenure at the Chinese Embassy in Lao PDR, where she gained deep expertise in both Southeast Asian and African affairs. These diverse experiences have played a crucial role in shaping her approach to sustainable development and international collaboration, particularly in building regional partnerships and tackling global challenges like climate change.

She holds a Master’s degree in Economics, with a specialization in Finance, from the Central University of Finance and Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, specializing in International Economics and Trade, from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
