Mekong Institute (MI), in collaboration with the Da Nang People’s Committee, organized the seminar on ‘Co-operation and Service Development on the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC)’ on August 10, 2017. The objectives of the workshop were to assess the potentials and advantages of the EWEC for cooperation and service development, and to discuss and find out solutions to strengthen regional cooperation in the EWEC. More than 70 representatives of embassies, government departments, and business owners from Vietnam attended the seminar.
The workshop was co-chaired by Dr. Watcharas Leelawath, Executive Director of MI, and Dr. Van Hung Nguyen, Vice Director of Da Nang Institute for Socio-Economic Development, Da Nang City People Committee. Dr. Watcharas, in his presentation, shared the experiences of MI’s initiatives on EWEC, particularly outlining the achievements of the project funded by the Swiss Development Corporation (SDC). Mr. Madhurjya Kumar Dutta, Director of the MI-Trade and Investment Facilitation Department, introduced the GMS corridors and explained the business databases including the EWEC business database, which is being developed by MI.
