In a move to bolster regional energy cooperation, the Mekong Institute (MI) delegation met with China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG) on August 12 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, where they were warmly received by Deputy General Manager Sun Li of CSG’s International Cooperation Department. The discussion focused on exploring ways to strengthen their long-standing partnership in energy innovation.
Over the years, MI and CSG’s partnership has achieved significant milestones, including facilitating twelve bilateral energy agreements, connecting Lancang-Mekong (LM) policy leaders with international energy experts, and empowering over 630 “power fellows” to advocate for
clean power connectivity across the region. Their joint efforts have also led to the automation of power distribution in Viet Nam and improved power trading within the LM Region.
Since the partnership began in 2015, it has been strengthened by a Cooperation Framework Agreement signed on April 7, 2022. Looking ahead, MI and CSG will hold an annual planning and review session to assess their progress, set new goals, and ensure continued alignment
with their shared objectives in energy innovation and regional development.
