CALL FOR AN ONLINE TRAINING COURSE

Trade and Investment Facilitation

With support from Yunnan Provincial Government of P. R. China, Mekong Institute (MI) is going to organize the Modular Training Program on “Promoting Digital Connectivity through E-commerce Development in the Greater Mekong Subregion” from August 29 to November 25, 2022.

The program contain three phases:

  • Phase I: August 29-September 14, 2022
    Online training course (11-day, 3.5 hours per day) via Zoom application;
  • Phase II: September 15-November 20, 2022

Action plan implementation by training participants, i.e.

  1. organizing national workshops by the group of trade promotion officers, and
  2. developing export e-market plans by the group of SME entrepreneurs;
  • Phase III: November 24-25, 2022

The online Synthesis and Evaluation workshop attended by training participants to reflect their action plan implementation results.

The modular training aims to enhance the capacity of SMEs entrepreneurs and officials of trade promotion organizations (TPOs) to explore business opportunities in regional and global market, including China and Thailand, through e-commerce. More specifically, the program plans to:

  • Assess eCommerce market potential
  • Enhance the understanding of potential of e-commerce development
  • Explore online business prospects through different e-commerce opportunities
  • Develop the mechanism for promoting the e-commerce in the GMS.

By the end of the training program, it is expected to contribute to

  • have better understanding on e-commerce market prospects;
  • identify the key intervention areas in the business sectors in the six countries;
  • innovate business model to initiate e-commerce;
  • foster collaboration mechanism between public and private sector to promote e-commerce development in six countries.

A total of 40 participants from six GMS countries, namely Cambodia, P.R.China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam are targeted by the program. They are i) 28 SME entrepreneurs representing a wide range of product business sectors, and ii) 12 officials from the Trade Promotion Organizations (related government organizations and business associations).

The interested applicant shall complete the Online Application Form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PRC-EC2022, and submit by no later than August 22, 2022 at 17:00 (Bangkok Time). Mrs. Guohua Liu

Director, Sustainable Energy & Environment (SEE) Department

Mrs. Liu Guohua is the Director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Department at the Mekong Institute. Prior to this role, she worked in the Department of International Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, where she played a key role in shaping and implementing China’s cooperation strategies with UN development agencies. During this time, Mrs. Liu was actively involved in advancing initiatives related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on climate change and green development. Additionally, she contributed to the evaluation of projects funded by various Chinese initiatives, such as the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, etc.

In addition to her work in the Department of International Economic Affairs, Mrs. Liu has an extensive diplomatic background. She spent 7 years in the Department of African Affairs, followed by a 4-year tenure at the Chinese Embassy in Lao PDR, where she gained deep expertise in both Southeast Asian and African affairs. These diverse experiences have played a crucial role in shaping her approach to sustainable development and international collaboration, particularly in building regional partnerships and tackling global challenges like climate change.

She holds a Master’s degree in Economics, with a specialization in Finance, from the Central University of Finance and Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, specializing in International Economics and Trade, from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
