LAUNCH OF THE VERY FIRST MEKONG DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2016

MI officially launched its very first “Mekong Development Report 2016” on December 7, 2016. MI Executive Director, Dr. Watcharas Leelawath gave an introduction speech to over thirty participants at MI.

This report is a systematic consolidation and analysis of several assessments and reports undertaken by different national researchers and the staff of MI. It is a product of commitment and collaborations of people who have been more than willing to share their expertise in the development of the East West Economic Corridor (EWEC). The report provides a detailed value chain analysis of rice in Khammouane, Lao PDR; maize in Kayin State, Myanmar; coffee in Quang Tri, Vietnam; and a comparative summary of each. It also elaborates on MI’s efforts to assist in the development of these value chains.

The launch of this report highlights a crucial project and the impact MI makes in the GMS, showcasing MI’s continued initiative to serve as a regional hub for information, integration, capacity building and development. This is the very first Mekong Development Report. In the future, MI will deliver the Mekong Development Report on a yearly basis to address issues concerning the GMS development.
